About
My name is Dave Cary. Who I am is not of any particular significance, but what I have learned over the past few years could change the course of our children's lives.
For those that are curious, I am a 30-year high technology information and industrial automation (robotics) executive who moved to Vallejo over 15 years ago with my wife and our two "All-American Boyz." We love Vallejo and cannot imagine living anywhere else. We think Vallejo's a great city with an incredible amount of potential. We obviously have some serious problems, but they can be overcome if we are willing to stop burying our heads in the sand and get to work. All we need is a couple a hits in the right direction to build some momentum and win. I believe NewERA Schools is the key to improving everything, especially our children's future.

Some of you might know me through NJB or as the guy who founded Blackbelt Basketball, an outdoor summer life skills and basketball camp we held at Jesse Bethel High School a few years back. If you want to know why we fell in love with Vallejo click the camp photo or the 2003 and 2004 summer camp's YouTube video links to get a glimpse. The camp was a great example of the what is great about Vallejo - our people. Blackbelt Basketball was entirely a voluntary effort - of 50 or so parent coaches. We served a few hundred kids each summer. For those of you who wondered why we stopped running it, it was not because we did not want to continue the program, or that we did not care about the kids. It was because we felt that something a whole lot more important was at stake, the future of our kids and our city. After all, what is more likely to serve them down the line, a good jump shot or a great education?
Others might know me as a school board candidate from a few years ago. Those that know me well, also know that serving on a school board was not something I was thrilled about doing. I respect the time commitment of those that serve, but I think very differently, and would have been frustrated by the constraints. I thank those that voted for me, but to be honest, I was extremely disappointed in the lack of real interest on the part of most parents and citizens, particularly at that critical point of time. Those that could afford it either moved or sent their children to other schools. I still believe most of you care, deeply, but like me, are skeptical of politicians and their promises, or do not know what to do about it. This is a second chance, a chance to take control of the outcome.
What most of you do not know is that we have been quietly working on the problem. I have traveled the country, gotten to know a who's-who list of educational experts and reformers, researched educational data as though we were writing a thesis. I have been asked to speak at national educational events, and hired charter school experts to help us refine our educational and financial models. You would be very surprised at what we have learned, at what is possible and what we have already put together.
It is time we tackled our city's biggest problem head on. Too many children are dropping out, too many do not have the skills to compete or even to earn a living wage, and most importantly too many teens are being killed by other teens in similar circumstances.
Please come help us do so. And, please help us get the word out to others by forwarding our URL, www.neweraschools.com, to anyone else you believe would be interested.

We believe our story, our journey is an important one. The American people need to know what we have learned. It has the potential to change the public understanding and political will of what can and must be done. We have spent the last 10 years researching for truth, traveling the country, visiting great schools, meeting educational reformers, developing a revolutionary new vision, and most importantly developing a paradigm shifting funding model.
Who we have met, the conversations we have had, the designs we have studied, and the lessons we have learned are sure to make interesting, thought provoking reading. If you would like to know more, email us at [email protected] . Please understand if I am traveling. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
